School Counsellor

Megan ThomasMegan Thomas is our school counsellor, and supports students as they transition through high school. Megan assists students on topics such as educational and career planning, as well as personal issues. She has experience in addictions and mental health counselling, as well as grief and loss. Megan also teaches AP Psychology at FX! Appointments can be booked in advance, but also can see students throughout their lunch and spares.

Michelle Urban

As a Registered Social Worker, Michelle Urban supports students and their families in a variety of areas at St. FX, including connections to resources, outreach, and supportive counselling. She has a comprehensive approach - always willing to listen, help problem solve, and provide information. Whether your stress is related to home, school, your personal life, or anything in between, she is there to talk!

My name is Ms. Chong and I am the Graduation Coach at St. Francis Xavier High School. As a Graduation Coach, I serve as a key member of the school’s Student Services Department. I work together with administrators, classroom teachers, multi-disciplinary team members, students, and parents to support a positive High School Completion aligned with Post-Secondary/Career goals. As a leader within the school, I am responsible for developing capacity and strengthening collaborative practices in supporting students to achieve success in obtaining their high school credentials.

Braided Journeys

 

My role supports Indigenous learners as they navigate through High School. We offer various academic, cultural, leadership, and personal supports to students. This includes credit recovery options, weekly programming, field trips, one-on-one academic counselling, tutoring, and more! Students are always welcome to drop in for a snack, check upcoming events, hang out on their spares or just come say hi! Braided Journeys is a great place to meet new people and connect with your community.

EAL Designate

Alena Pavone

My name is Mrs. Pavone. I am the EAL Designate at St. FX. I help students who are new to Canada within the last 5 years. I evaluate and track their English Language skills to ensure they are progressing. I also connect students with resources to support their high school journey; this includes planning and scheduling courses not only for high school graduation but also to set them up for post-secondary entrance requirements.

In-School Settlement Practitioner

My name is Grannie Ann Masangkay. I am a Settlement Worker in School (SWIS) with Edmonton Immigrant Services Association (EISA). I help newcomer students and their families with their immigration and settlement needs.

Off-Campus Education Coordinator

Darrin BauerAs the Off-Campus Education coordinator, I help students earn credits for working or volunteering in the community through the Work Experience Program. I also help students get a head start in a career in the Trades through the Registered Apprentice Program (RAP). You can find me in the Learning Centre or you can e-mail me for more information.
